Introduction[]
Hello there people, so I think making a blog like this is long overdue and that Castlevania should have had it's respect ages ago. I'm sure many are aware of how powerful Casltevania actually is and the likes, but I want to overview the many justifications for Tier 2 Castlevania and explain why it's a perfectly valid tier to have the verse at. There are surprisingly a multitude of feats on this level and is rather consistent. What I intend to do here is cover the ground VBW did but elaborate on it and also provide more to the feats. so with that being said, we can get into this
Feat #1: The Abyss Collapse[]
This is one of the main supporting feats for Tier 2 besides another certain feat I plan to go over after this. In Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, we are introduced to this location known simply as "The Abyss" and we can see it's a realm comprised of 6 different layers. You can probably see where I'm getting at here and yes, they are all universes. What supports this is several things but the most blatant is that one of the realms is even explictly shown to encompass outer space and contain countless galaxiesand this isn't just realm exclusive thing, as even realms that have nothing to do with space contain celestial bodies such as the sun. What even seals the deal if you ask me is the fact even the game treats them as seperated spaces and are not physically connected to one another. So the realms should definitely be seperated space-time continuums if we subscribe to the notion they are universes
Now why is this important, it's not like anyone scales to this....Right ? Well you'd be wrong as The Menace's death triggers the collapse of The Abyss and as stated by Genya Arikado himself, The Abyss is beginning the crumble and disappear. Mind you, we technically don't even need Menace destroying The Abyss as Dracula can control, warp and recreate Castlevania, which contains The Abyss and is merely an extension of his own existence
So with that all in mind...Dracula should rather easily be 2-C and scale to the destruction of 6 different space-time continuums
Feat #2: Time Reaper Devours Time[]
Whenever someone brings up Tier 2 Castlevania, this is probably one of the most brought up feats to support them being this high. For good reason as it's rather blatant in how applicable it is
“ | a guardian of time, Aeon journeyed through the ages.
One day, suddenly and without warning, a powerful entity appeared from 10,000 years in the future, determined to destroy the very fabric of time. Aeon enlisted the power of thirteen mighty souls, setting each on a path that would lead to this great enemy. With only a single chance at victory, Aeon must determine the most worthy champion for the battle ahead... |
„ |
~ Aeon stating the threat that Time Reaper poses |
As stated above, Time Reaper is capable of devouring the fabric of space and time itself. This would just be a Low 2-C feat without any context to it, but I'd argue it effects more than just the universe, as Galamoth used Time Devourer as a means to conquer creation and as such, we can deduce that Time Reapers effects would have destroyed space-time across the entirety of creation
“ | Aeon: Right on time. You must be the chosen one.
Alucard: So this was all as you had planned. Aeon: There is just one last thing. Alucard: Have I not collected every key? What lies beyond that door? Aeon: A visitor from ten thousand years in the future. A servant of one who would rule over all creation. Alucard: And I must defeat him |
„ |
~ Aeon to Alucard |
So this confirms that Galamoth and to extension, The Time Reaper would have effected creation as a whole. This is important as Castlevania has parallel dimensions and this is both mentioned in series within Judgement and also by the creator themselves, who has laid an outline of how Castlevania canon should be treated, which I'll show below
“ | Regarding the Famicom version and the X68000 version, the X68000 version is an arrangement based on the Famicom version. The arrangement of a game is the kind of thing where you add a lot of different things as needed, so honestly speaking, it think they both should be considered legitimate. In conclusion, I think they should be considered as the same scenario of fighting to defeat Dracula, just with a different middle part. The Super Famicom version is different as well... If you simply must have a clear answer, the Famicom version must be given deference. | „ |
“ | Regarding Castlevania 64, Legacy of Darkness, Circle of the Moon, Order of Shadows and the Arcade, they are stories from a separate world with the same world view. Castlevania 64, Legacy of Darkness and Circle of the Moon are treated in the same way as the makers intended. | „ |
What this means is that every alternate version of a game, such as remakes and reimaginations in Castlevania, are to be seen as alternate universes and effectively their own continuities. When taking this into account, we'd get 19 alternate universes for Castlevania (likely more accounting for places such as The Abyss, Castlevania itself and other spaces part of the multiverse) and all of this is going to be purged by The Time Reaper destroying space-time across all of creation. This yet again supports the notion of 2-C for Castlevania
Feat #3: Chaos Realm/God's Creation[]
The last feat I'm going to go over, is the feat of Chaos creating and managing their own personal realm within Castlevania's more fundamental and deeper parts. Similarly to The Abysss, we can see that Chaos's realm a huge space that contains it's own space with galaxies contained inside and to even drive this in further, the official description is "An alternate realm ripping through time and space". So even if we completely ignored everything else and deduced it as an illusion (which has no proof to it), this one statement alone should justify it being a universe as it's blatantly stated to be an alternate universe
In Castlevania, the existence of God is a confirmed thing and they are meant to be of an opposition to Chaos. Specifically in Lament of Innocence and Aria of Sorrow, where "God" plays a huge role within the story and is meant to be the creator of all things in Castlevania. This would mean that God created at least 19 different universes
Refutations[]
"Castlevania Judgement is non-canon"
- No no no....This is absolutely not true and I can explain why this is the case. Not only do we have elements from Judgement being lifted into the official/canon timeline, which can be seen with St.Germain being part of the same group Aeon is, a "Time Watcher" but as posted above, non-canon games are meant to be treated as alternate timelines and as such, this still did happen even if we were humoring this notion they are non-canon.
"We can't assume all realms of The Abyss are universes"
- This is also false as occam's razor would likely dictate they are. We already seen even realms that aren't related to outer space can contain celestial bodies and the fact one of them full on contains galaxies would prove that The Abyss and it's realms are all different universes. Not to mention, it would be illogical at that considering they are all aspects and meant to be reflect Chaos/his realm (which is a confirmed universe)
"God is not a real character"
- This is a notion I can't reasonably agree with and honestly, God is a fundamental part of the story and is brought up to exist many times. Mind you, it isn't just some god, but Castlevania's God is confirmed to be "Christian God", the one with the big G and the likes
“ | The path you took was the most challenging one. You did well. For God to be good, evil is an absolute necessity in this world. In the future, someone may follow again in Dracula's dark footsteps. At that time, perhaps we'll meet again. Farewell... In my mother's name, I send thanks to you. | „ |
This is one of the more blatant allusions to the existence of God, it described as an "opposition" to Chaos and if God wasn't a very real thing in the verse, then Darkness would grow. The fact it doesn't further proves it's existence and mind you, I could grab more statements, such as:
“ | Arikado: What Celia told you wasn't necessarily wrong. The dark lord is the entity opposite to God.
Soma: Then that means there will always be a need for a dark lord. All because I ducked out from becoming the next in line! |
„ |
But I think you get the point. Castlevania God is the supreme being of the verse and created everything there is and was in the verse, which would support 2-C even more as Chaos scales to God and is a direct opposite to them, whilst Soma Cruz is comparable to Chaos and can purge them
Conclusion[]
In conclusion, Castlevania should be 2-C and at the very minimum Low 2-C as many consistent feats in the Tier 2 range appear and scale to a good majority of the verse. Whether we bring up feats such as the infamous Time Reaper or even things such as The Abyss and how it collapses....The bottom line is that Castlevania is a Tier 2 verse based on the feats
