Summary[]
Negation is the general ability to negate the effects and or existence of something. This can pertain to a power, a being, energy, element or whatever phenomena one could think of. Typically the negation effects are temporary and on a local scale but some more advanced users can potentially negate things permanently and on a grander scale. Users at their strongest could potentially negate absolutely any and all things, including abstract things such as concepts, universal definitions, laws, boundaries, logic, etc.
Variations[]
These are some of the notable variations of Negation that are seen in fiction:
Resistance Negation[]
- A variation of Negation that involves removing an opponent's ability to resist certain effects or just completely ignoring the resistance altogether. This means that users of this negation could effect other users with things they'd normally resist or even potentially override apparent immunities if powerful enough
- If a character can negate one's resistance to say Reality Warping, this means their resistance negation pertains to specifically reality warping and nothing more. The only reason this wouldn't be the case is if there's other abilities, lore or explanations to suggest they can negate other resistances never shown or stated
Regeneration Negation[]
- A variation of Negation that involves bypassing one's ability to regenerate, preventing them from regenerating altogether despite the opponent being able to normally do so. This means that users of this negation could effectively make a regeneration factor useless in battle and make them susceptible to injuries no different from a normal human
- Just because one character can negate High-Mid Regeneration, that doesn't mean they can also negate higher forms of regeneration as that would fall under a No Limits Fallacy
Immortality Negation[]
- A variation of Negation that involves bypassing the immortality of an opponent. This in itself can come in different varieties correlating to the different immortalities that exist but the general gist is that it's negating a form of immortality. Usually this manifests in the form of being able to kill a character permanently in spite of their immortality(s)
- Just because one character can negate a form of immortality, it doesn't mean they can negate all forms of immortality as opposed to what immortality type they were shown to negate. So this means someone who can negate Type 6 can't just negate Type 4 Immortality due to how vastly different they are
Invulnerability Negation[]
- A variation of Negation that involves bypassing invulnerability, essentially being able to harm a character despite being unable to be harmed due to their invulnerability under normal circumstances. What this means is that a user can harm someone in spite of being normally invulnerable to any damage
Limitations[]
- Some users may be limited in what amount of range their negation takes effect
- Users can be limited in what they can negate and potentially unable to negate certain things
- Some users are immune to negation and thus it simply doesn't work
